Built for British Columbia

Naramata metal roofing: a roof that cannot rust.

BC is a coastline, a rainforest, a snow belt and a fire zone, sometimes on the same drive. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each.

Salt air

Aluminum cannot rust

There is no iron in aluminum, so there is nothing to rust. It forms its own thin oxide layer, which re-forms if the surface is scratched. That is why it is the metal for oceanfront homes, island cabins and anywhere the wind carries salt.

Wildfire

Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly

Under ASTM E108 a fire classification belongs to an assembly, not a panel. On our roofs Class A is achieved with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood, and the aluminum itself does not ignite. Ask us to quote the assembly if your home backs onto forest or grassland.

Reflectance

Reflectance, rated colour by colour

Most Alunar® colours are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), which publishes each colour's solar reflectance (0.25 to 0.44 when new) and thermal emittance (0.83 to 0.86). Lighter and metallic colours reflect more. The Alunar® finish is warranted for 30 years.

Energy

Colour and summer heat

Lighter colours absorb less summer sun than dark ones. What that saves depends on climate, colour, insulation and attic ventilation, so we don't quote a figure.

Solar

The roof to put solar on

A solar array lasts 25 to 30 years. Put it on an asphalt roof and the panels often have to come off and go back on when the roof wears out underneath them. On an Interlock roof they come off at the end of their own life, not the roof's. Standing Seam takes clamp mounts with no holes drilled; the other profiles use mounting hardware made for metal roofing. At roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre the roof leaves more of the structure's capacity for the array, and your solar installer confirms the framing.

Wind

Locked on four sides

Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides, with no exposed fastener for a storm to work at. Wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Coastline: Province of British Columbia, Coastal Marine Strategy ↗ gives "more than 26,000 kilometres"; federal mapping gives 25,725 km. Product figures are the manufacturer's: interlockroofing.com ↗

Where we've worked

Naramata roofing: 2 roofs installed in Naramata. Here they are.

We install Interlock® aluminum roofs in Naramata, on the east shore of Okanagan Lake and up among the orchards and vineyards of the Naramata Bench. The roof is made in Canada at the Interlock plant in Delta, BC, and our own crews put it on.

Completed Interlock® roofs by community, from our job book. Every other part of BC has its own local site: same company, same crews, same warranty.

    Why aluminum roofing, for Naramata

Sun, dry hillsides and fire season. A roof for the Naramata Bench.

    Dry air

About 330 mm of precipitation a year

The Naramata climate table on Wikipedia, from Environment Canada's 1971–2000 normals, shows 330 mm of precipitation a year and an average July high of 27.0 °C. With so little rain, sun is what wears a roof out here. Aluminum shingles carry no asphalt or wood fibre for the sun to break down.

    Interface

    Homes against the hillside

Naramata, RDOS Electoral Area E, is part of the Regional District's Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan work, with public sessions held in 2025. Aluminum does not ignite, and the roof is Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly. No roof is fireproof; we look at gutters and vents with you, because that is where embers settle.

    The Bench

Orchards, vineyards and a farm landscape

Much of Naramata lies in the Agricultural Land Reserve, and the bench has moved from tree fruit to vineyards and wineries. Interlock® Standing Seam suits a barn or shop roof; Interlock® Cedar Shingle and Interlock® Shake keep a wood look on the house.

    Zoom

No trip needed for the first meeting

Our only office is in Delta, at the Interlock plant, and we have none in the Okanagan. About three in four of our BC roof consultations happen on Zoom: you walk us around the house on your phone and we go through profiles, colours and the roof itself. If you would rather meet in person, we come to your home.

    Recycled

    Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

    Straight answers

Metal shingles in Naramata: straight answers.

    All of our answers ↗

    Which communities does naramataroofing.com cover?

Naramata itself: the village by the lake and the bench above it, about 15 km by road north of Penticton. Penticton, Summerland and everywhere else in the Okanagan and Shuswap are covered at okanaganroofing.com. The company, crews and warranty are the same.

Can I get metal shingles or aluminum shingles in Naramata?

Yes. Interlock® Slate, Interlock® Cedar Shingle, Interlock® Shake and Interlock® Mediterranean Tile are aluminum shingles that interlock on four sides, and we also install Interlock® Standing Seam and solid copper. Each one needs a roof pitched at 3/12 or steeper.

Does an aluminum roof make sense in Naramata's wildfire country?

It is a fair question here. The Regional District included Naramata, Electoral Area E, in its Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan, with public open houses in June 2025. The fire rating reads: Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly. The metal itself does not ignite. No roof is fireproof. Embers still pile up in gutters, valleys and vents, so those need clearing every summer whatever the roof is made of.

Who issues building permits in Naramata?

Naramata is Electoral Area E of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, and the RDOS issues building permits there. Its Building Inspection FAQ lists "recovering existing roofs" on single and two-family homes among non-structural work that does not need a permit, provided the building envelope is not affected. A full tear-off can differ, so we check with the RDOS for your property.

How much does a metal roof cost in Naramata?

See our metal roof cost page for price ranges by profile, taken from our own BC jobs. Structure and other conditions change the price from one roof to the next, so those figures are only a rough guide. For an accurate number we need a roof consultation, on Zoom or at your home.

What does "Naramata's Best Roof®" mean?

The words Best Roof® are a registered trademark of I.E.L. Manufacturing Ltd., the Interlock company that owns the mark. It names the Interlock® roof in Canada. "Naramata's Best Roof®" is that same aluminum roof, put on in Naramata by our own BC company. That is a brand, not a ranking of roofers.
